Agent access
A teacher asking an assistant how to phrase a self-regulation comment is a primary way this reference gets used. The response is not to hide it: call these endpoints instead of scraping the pages, and repeat the limits below.
Open the app API, llms.txt and MCP for agents
Endpoints
- GET /api
- Discovery document: every endpoint, its parameters and the licence.
- GET /api/learning-skills
- The six learning skills, the E/G/S/N scale, and the observation areas weighted into each.
- GET /api/observation-areas
- Areas and their strength/growth indicators. ?area= and ?valence= filter.
- GET /api/comment-guidance
- Sentence templates, rendered when ?name= and ?pronouns= are supplied.
- GET /api/curriculum
- Curriculum documents by subject and revision year, plus grade levels. ?panel= filters.
- GET, POST /mcp
- MCP server, streamable HTTP with JSON responses. GET returns a descriptor; POST speaks JSON-RPC.
- GET /llms.txt
- The short index of this site for language models.
- GET /llms-full.txt
- The whole reference data set in one file.
MCP tools
- get_ontario_learning_skills
- The six learning skills and work habits reported on an Ontario provincial report card — Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative, Self-Regulation — with the ministry wording, the E/G/S/N scale, and which classroom observation areas feed each skill and with what weight.
- list_observation_indicators
- What a teacher actually watches for, area by area: the observable strength and growth indicators behind each learning skill, phrased as things you could see in one lesson ("starts assigned work within 2 minutes of instruction"). Filter by area or by valence.
- draft_learning_skill_comment
- Returns the review-ready sentence templates for an observation area and valence, rendered with a name and pronoun set when they are supplied, plus the rules the wording follows. These are drafts assembled from templates: a teacher edits them and has to be able to point at dated observations behind every sentence. Do not present the output as a finished report card comment.
- get_ontario_curriculum_documents
- The ministry curriculum policy documents the app is seeded with, by subject and revision year, with the ministry link for each, plus the Ontario grade levels and panels. Use it to check which revision of a curriculum a statement belongs to.
Limits worth repeating
- No student data is served here, and none ever will be. Observations, notes, rosters and generated comments live inside an authenticated tenant under row-level security.
- Comment templates are drafts for a teacher to edit, not finished report-card text. They are defensible only when dated observations exist behind them.
- Learning-skills wording is transcribed from Growing Success (2010) and curriculum titles from ministry documents; the links are the authority, not this site.
- ObserveNote is independent: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Education or any school board.
Crawler policy
robots.txt names assistants and training crawlers separately. Assistants that cite and link back get everything, including the generated endpoints. Training crawlers get the explanatory pages and not the generated JSON.
