ObserveNote

Observe in the room. Report from the evidence.

ObserveNote is a classroom observation tracker for Ontario teachers. Record what you see as short, timestamped notes against observation areas and indicators, and let the evidence turn into report-card comment drafts and E/G/S/N learning-skill ratings.

How it works

Observe in the room

A tap is one observation: an area, an indicator, a valence — strength, growth or neutral — and a timestamp. It happens while the lesson is happening, not in a prep period three weeks later.

Evidence accumulates against skills

Each area is weighted onto the 6 learning skills, so an observation logged during a math block is already reporting evidence when the term ends.

Report from what you recorded

A draft comment is assembled from templates plus your own anecdotal notes, with the observations behind each sentence listed so you can check them, edit the wording and drop what you cannot defend.

What it covers

Why evidence first

A report card written from memory in June is a report card that cannot be defended in a conversation with a parent. One written from thirty dated observations can be.

That is the whole design: make recording cheap enough to do during the lesson, then make the reporting a consequence of what was recorded rather than a separate act of writing.

Questions

What does ObserveNote do?
It records short, timestamped classroom observations against 5 observation areas and 30 observable indicators, then turns that evidence into report-card comment drafts and suggested E/G/S/N learning-skill ratings for the six Ontario learning skills and work habits.
Is it built for Ontario report cards?
Yes. It is seeded with the Ontario curriculum documents, strands and the six Growing Success learning skills and work habits, and it drafts in provincial report-card language. Nothing about Ontario is hard-coded: a different jurisdiction or behaviour framework is data, not code.
Does it write report cards for me?
No. Drafts are assembled from review-ready templates and the observations you actually recorded, and every sentence carries the evidence behind it so you can defend or delete it. You edit and approve the wording; the app never sends anything anywhere.
How long does recording an observation take?
A few seconds — pick the student, tap an indicator, and the timestamp and reporting period are filled in. Anecdotal notes and a curriculum expectation are optional, and can be added later from the same record.
What about student privacy?
Observations live inside your organization and school, behind authentication and row-level security, and are visible to the teachers who share that class. No student information is published on this site or exposed through its public API.
Can an AI assistant use this data?
Yes, for the reference material. There is a read-only JSON API, an llms.txt, and an MCP server at /mcp with 4 tools covering the learning skills, the observation indicators, the comment templates and the curriculum documents. Student data is never part of it.
